Description:

SIPS

I built a website as a project for class which focused on health and relationships. SIPS is a website intended for quick-access for college students attending a party. When drinking, it is important to understand the warning signs of over drinking and what to do.

User Issues

Many college students will go to their first party where alcohol is involved. This results in many people drinking without knowing their limits. SIPS intends to help these students have access to warning signs of over drinking and what to do with those signs.

Research

Knowing that this information could be life-saving, I needed to ensure that all of my resources were credible. I made sure to find information on existing professional websites on the subject and to meet with professionals in the field as well as people who have experienced over drinking.

User Testing

With testing my design, it was important to have many different participants. These participants were split into two categories, sober and drinking. There needed to be a balance between how both groups interacted with the website to ensure that all people had access to relevant information. If a sober person wanted to prepare for a party or if someone who was drinking at a party needed the information, it had to be fast and accurate to prevent as much damage as possible.

Challenges

The challenges with this project were interviewing professionals and user testing. Finding professionals who I knew rather than cold-calling involved many meetings and understanding the questions that needed to be addressed. User testing was interesting in a way that I had not expected. I decided to use the website in live settings rather than encouraging participants to drink before interviewing. In doing so, I had to be patient to find people who were already drinking and encourage them to test the site.
